Andrea has over 15 years’ experience as a Speech Pathologist. She has specialist experience working with history of Cleft Palate for their communication and swallowing needs including management of Velopharyngeal Incompetence (VPI) and articulation disorders. This experience not only makes her one of the few Speech Pathologists in Victoria to competently manage children with history of cleft palate, but it provides her with accurate differential diagnosis skills in the area of speech sound disorders.

 

Andrea focuses her caseload to the following areas in order to provide quality, competent services:

-       Speech sound disorders

-       Literacy & language skills, and

-       Fluency / stuttering

Andrea works part time as the sole clinician in her private practice in order to balance her busy family life with 3 young children.

Andrea has completed formailsed training in the following evidence based programs:

  • Sounds-Wrtite Inc Phonics program - for literacy

  • Lidcombe Program - for children under 6 years who stutter.

  • Nuffield Dyspraxia and ReST programs for treating motor speech disorders.

  • Wednesday - limited AVAILABILITY (11.30am-1pm) (for visit to home/school/kinder within 20min drive of Malvern East) or via Telehealth,

  • Thursday (currently at capacty)

Services

Assessment

All new clients are provided with a clinical assessment including case history, clinical observation and relevant standardised or profile guided assessment based on clinical evidence in the area of concern in which the family seek services for.

Initial assessment takes 60min and depending on the presenting difficulty, some children require multiple assessments. This will be discussed with Andrea when making the appointment.

At conclusion of assessment a clinical diagnosis and recommendations will be provided in the form of written report.

Therapy

Therapy is provided for various speech disorders, and language / literacy difficulties at 30min, 45min or 60min duration. Stuttering therapy is provided for 60min based on the Lidcombe Program protocol. Andrea will provide you with tailored recommendations for therapy following assessment.

If therapy is not required following a comprehensive assessment, Andrea may recommend a review at a specific age or time frame (eg in 6months time) to ensure that communication and literacy skills continue to progress.

Professional clinical coaching

Andrea is one of the few Speech Pathologists in Australia who specialise in management of speech and velopharyngeal disorders relating to history of cleft palate. She has expereince in lecturing to Universities and providing professional coaching and mentoring to Speech Pathologists wishing to further develop their skills in this clinical area.
